Women Runners That Inspire Us: Celebrating International Women's Day!

March 8th is International Women's Day, and we're taking a moment to celebrate the remarkable women who have made history in the world of running.

From breaking records to challenging stereotypes, these trailblazers have inspired generations of athletes to dream big and chase their goals.

    Kathrine Switzer

A true pioneer in women's running, Kathrine Switzer made history in 1967 when she became the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon! Despite attempts to forcibly remove her from the race by race officials, Kathrine persevered and crossed the finish line, shattering gender barriers and paving the way for future generations of female runners.

Her courage and determination serve as a powerful reminder that no obstacle is insurmountable.

    Wilma Rudolph

Known as the "fastest woman in the world" during the 1960s, Wilma Rudolph overcame incredible odds to become an Olympic champion.

Born prematurely and afflicted with polio as a child, Wilma defied expectations and went on to win three gold medals in track and field at the 1960 Olympics in Rome. Her remarkable journey from disability to athletic greatness shows the power of resilience and perseverance!

    Joan Benoit Samuelson

A pioneer in women's distance running, Joan Benoit Samuelson made history in 1984 when she won the first-ever Olympic marathon for women at the Los Angeles Games.

Her victory not only showcased the capabilities of female athletes in endurance sports but also inspired countless women around the world to lace up their shoes and hit the roads.

To this day, Joan remains a vocal advocate for women's equality in sports and continues to inspire runners of all ages to pursue their passions fearlessly.

We want to honor all the extraordinary women in our community. The female runners who continue to push boundaries, defy expectations, and inspire us to reach new heights!

Whether you're a seasoned marathoner or just starting out on your running journey, remember that every step you take is a testament to the strength, resilience, and determination of women everywhere.

    Happy International Women's Day!
